Stockholm has woken up from its summer hibernation. The city is buzzing with people and restaurants are open again. Luckily the weather still reminds of summer. I am not that sensitive to fall coming though. Fall means Cavatast; fall means my birthday; and fall means that winter vacation is closer. Yes! We have booked a long trip to Asia again. Bangkok and Singapore, here we come. I should publish some pictures from last year to remissness. This weekend I have encountered some technical problems. Yesterday I tried to publish a post, but just ended up spending hours cursing the internet. It happens, I know. But I still let it get to me. Had to calm the nerves down with some wine. It is already a month since our visit to the heart of Champagne, Epernay. It was really the perfect place to stay as a group without a car. We were able to reach many smaller towns within 15 to 20 minutes by cab. The cost was reasonable as we split it six-ways. Champagne Jacques Selosse, the rebel of Avize, has always fascinated me. I am often skeptical when it comes to more expensive brands, however, Selosse to me is worth every penny you spend on it. Selosse is not just a brand, it is a phenomenon. This is why I am super excited to be visiting the estate restaurant, les Avizes, in June. So to prep-up, I decided to embark on a journey to learn more on how Anselme (the son a Jacques) and his wife Corinne Selosse have achieved such a world renowned reputation. Gramona was one of the first specialty cavas that came my way a good three years ago when we were starting our business. Llagrima s’Or is obviously the first (and my favorite) but the Gramona came soon after. Since that time I have of course discovered many more, but Gramona is one of the cavas that have made it big outside the borders of Spain. And it is one of the only artisan cavas found in the Monopoly standard selection. The price is a bit on the high side though (compared to Spain). Now this is a topic that is sometimes confusing. Words like organic, biodynamic and natural wines are thrown around in conversations lightly. But do we really know the difference? Is it even possible to know the difference as countries and apellations regulate these terms differently? I will be honest with you, I was not at all sure of all the definitions myself before I did this little investigation.
