Head Start to Christmas in Porvoo

This post is a tribute to my friends at Tripsteri. I have to admit that they are behind all this good work. However, I could not help my self but to post some of these tips here prior to Christmas. Porvoo is a small historical town in Finland, around 30 minutes drive from Helsinki. Its a very old village with lots of history, beautiful wooden buildings, and surprise surprise, a wonderful restaurant scene. Here are a few tips to the Porvoo food scene, compliments of Siru, Paula and Tuulia, my lovely colleagues at Tripsteri. Continue reading “Head Start to Christmas in Porvoo”

Wineweek 163: Pre-christmas in Helsinki

Every year, we travel abroad for Christmas. And not just abroad, but preferably far far away from cold Sweden. We like spending the holiday season somewhere warm. Other prerequisites are safety, good food and preferably good drinks. There are plenty of travel destinations in the world, but only a few of the fulfill our requirements. So despite a tough analysis on all of the possible options, every year we end up going to South-East Asia. This years destinations include Thailand (Bangkok and Hua Hin) , Cambodia (Siam Reap) and Singapore. And whats best, we leave already next week. Next week! Awesome! But before that, we have been spending some time in Helsinki to make up for the lost Christmas with my family. We did some fun stuff. Here are a few tips for Helsinki in December. Wineweek 162: The Christmas Calendar

Every year M tells me that this year, there will be no Christmas calendar. I have already stopped believing him; Every year there is, and there is always some new twist to it. This years calendar is great fun, read on to find out more about it. Continue reading “Wineweek 162: The Christmas Calendar”

Three Tips for Making a Wine-Calendar

I think I write about this same topic every year; I rave about the awesomeness of having a wine calendar for Christmas. I think it was three years ago that I got one from M, and I still remember it vividly: 24 boxes, stacked in four rows of six, waiting for me on top of the wine fridge on the first day of December. I will never forget it because it was so awesome.  So if you truly love someone who truly loves wine – trust me, this is the best way to show your affection. Wineweek 112: Christmas Eve – Thai Style

This year, it has not felt at all like a traditional Christmas. At all! We just discussed it yesterday: no decorations at home, no Christmas food, no carols. This has been very convenient, as we (M) do not really care that much for Christmas. We utilize the holiday period to spend some time somewhere warm, usually in South-East Asia. And this year again we traveled early to avoid the tourist rush. But it is quite uncommon that Christmas slips by almost unnoticed. Proof that we have been way too busy this fall. Some Party Tricks for Christmas

December is a hectic time of the year. There is so much to remember, and so much to do, that I feel lucky if I achieve even half of my ambition. If you are wondering why we always travel away for the holidays? Wonder no more – it is to avoid all the hassle, preparations and buying of presents. Sitting in the sun is nice as well. But in case you are planning parties for the holidays, good that I just read about a few good tricks to have up your sleeve if preparations for wine have slipped your mind.  Continue reading “Some Party Tricks for Christmas”

Winter Cocktails at the Old Apothecary

Usually, I drink cocktails in the summer. I like them fresh and crispy; with flavors like elderflower, mint, citrus and ginger. And, I always end up choosing Gin as my base. I have become like a broken record when it comes to cocktails, always the same thing, just dressed up a bit differently. But I finally read about the winter cocktail menu at Pharmarium, and could not hold back my excitement for something new. Their quirky cocktails are a legend in Stockholm, and I just cannot wait to go for a seasonal drink. Continue reading “Winter Cocktails at the Old Apothecary”

Wineweek 109: The Christmas Calendar

Finally December, and only 20 days to go until Christmas. I am a fan. M is not. We travel south every year to utilize the quiet time of year to enjoy some warmth and sun. And we don’t really celebrate Christmas there under the palm trees, perhaps just go for a nice dinner. The trip its self is enough of a present. However, to compensate for the “loss” of the Christmas parties (or perhaps due to the fact that I like presents), M has almost every year made a surprise Christmas calendar for me. Last year, we travelled very early, so it did not make sense lugging the calendar on the trip. But this year again, I discovered a stack of surprises waiting for me on December 1st. I am always a bit overwhelmed. This year as well. But nothing really beats the surprise of the wine-calendar of 2014. So I thought we would take a quick peak at what it looked like two years ago. Wineweek 105: The First Snow

This morning – the first proper snowfall of the year. Sorry, I don’t have any pictures of it. Me and my camera have remained happily indoors; drinking tea and eating chocolate. But I have a few other cool shots to show you from yesterdays visit to AB.Cafe for brunch and Vina wine bar for dinner. I also did some window shopping in the center. Even though we do not spend Christmas in Sweden, I still like getting a few small gifts for the fam. And the best place to find nice stuff is Designtorget, that carries works of many Swedish designers – big and small.  Continue reading “Wineweek 105: The First Snow”

Wineweek 53:Swedish Christmas Treats

So now all the Christmas decorations are officially out. There is no escaping anymore. I really love Christmas, don’t get me wrong. I am just opposed to it always starting so early. By the time it is mid-December, I am already bored with all the fuss. Continue reading “Wineweek 53:Swedish Christmas Treats”
