Wineweek 141: At Home

This weekend we planned to be mainly at home. How unusual. I don’t know why I have such restless feet, as our (new) home is actually quite nice. We have space in the kitchen and a big balcony, M makes great food and the best wine selection in town is right here in our living room in our Climadiff wine fridges. We even bought this small electric grill to be able to get the barbecue-experience without having to go to a restaurant. So to make sure we stayed at home, we invited some friends over for dinner, both Friday and Saturday.  Continue reading “Wineweek 141: At Home”

Glass Matters

I remember my first time in a Riedel glass tasting. It was around seven years ago at the Helsinki Wine-expo. I was not a wine geek then, wine curious perhaps. A friend convinced me to try out Riedels glass experience, where the same wine was served from four different glasses to make the point that Glass Matters. Yes, I tasted the difference. Or at least I think I did. How much is psychological is quite interesting. A friend, who is a neuro scientist, has written articles about tasting cheap and expensive wines. if you know the wine is expensive, you will be more likely to like it he says. It may be the same with the glass: if you know you are holding handcrafted fine crystal, you will like the taste better. The aromatic experience I truly believe is different due to different shapes of glasses, so that of course strengthens the total experience. Anyway, glassware matters to me, and that is most important. Continue reading “Glass Matters”

Wineweek 69: The Start of the Rose Season

The first week of March. Is it spring yet? Who cares. Rose season is here and we celebrated by opening a small bottle of Ruinart. It isn’t as great as the Billecart-Salmon, but decent still. Clearly a food-rose. Usually the “season” starts here in Sweden around Easter and lasts until mid-summer. However, rose is fashionable all summer and goes really well with some of the Nordic cuisine: new potatoes, salmon and grilled meats. We are also prepping ourselves to the start of rose sales by studying (read about discoveries here) and getting some samples from our great producers. Last year we sold out of rose. So this year we will be doubling the stock. Continue reading “Wineweek 69: The Start of the Rose Season”

Glasperfection: Christmas Present From Me to Me

Remember the recent post about the perfect wine-glass? Well now we finally ordered the Zalto glasses I have been ranting about for so long. They arrived yesterday, hand delivered, from Stockwine. Merry Christmas to me (us)! Continue reading “Glasperfection: Christmas Present From Me to Me”
