Wineweek 81:A Fresh New Look

We have worked all week. Every evening after dinner, we have opened our laptops to work on our new Shopify web shop. It has felt good doing some extra work for the business, as we have admittedly been slacking off lately. Or rather been focusing on tasting wines instead of actively selling them. Today we launched the new website with great pride! Not that it looks as good as many professionally made web shops, however, I consider this quite an achievement as we are complete amateurs in this field. Oh, the possibilities one has today with  To honor the launch, we have also added some great new wines to the selection.

With New York still fresh on my mind, I thought I would share a few of my favorite finds with you. As I wrote before, I was a bit disturbed by the loud music and night club ambiance of many places. However here is a list of my favorites and a few words on why.

Work In Progress

It has been quiet on the blog for a few days. The reason is that I have been working day and night on launching our new web shop. Our old, and might I mention free, Tictail account does not look too shabby. So M and I decided it was time for an upgrade. We toyed around with the idea of paying someone to do this for us, however we have been buying so much stock recently that we did not have the budget for it. So yours truly ended up as the website-monkey (maybe M did some stuff as well). Tomorrow morning, we will go live with a new fresh look, and here are some sneak peeks.

Wineweek 80: Pictures From New York

Finally I have a chance to post some proper pictures. I was running around with my camera all week in New York, however, was not able to edit them before returning home. The only place I skipped having the camera was 11 Madison Park. I felt it was slightly inappropriate to hover over all of the nice dishes with my heavy Nikon. I will spend some time writing more about wine bars and restaurants during the coming week. Until then, enjoy the photos!

Bubbly Tip of the Week: Georges Laval Cumieres Premier Cru Brut Nature

I recently wrote about how big brand champagne has long since divorced what comes from the ground. The aspiration of producing the same product batch after batch requires manipulation of the years produce with a mix of wine from the previous vintages as well as an addition of sugar (to hide some of the taste of the grape). Well here is a champagne that is exactly the opposite: Georges Laval Cumieres Premier Cru Brut Nature.

Discovering New York Wines

Finally I am writing from home. I have time, I have good pictures, I also have a jetlag…but I will write something anyway. I have been super excited reading up on two new wine regions (new for me) in New York county. When traveling we always aspire to try wines from the area. If there are some. I did not expect New York to be anything special, but was proven wrong when trying produce from Finger Lakes  and North Fork of Long Island AVA (American Viticultural Area). We ended up gulping up wines from the region all trip long and bought a bunch of great bottles to take home (only 16 bottles this time).

Wineweek 79: Wine and the City

This will be a quick one as I have not reserved much time for writing. We have eaten our way through the city, visited wine shops and discovered new bars and cafes. Here are a few things I have learned about New York and wine.

Pictures From a Foodies New York

It will be a quick one this Saturday, as we are still running around New York. But here are some sneak peaks from one of the best dinners of my life at 11 Madisson Park, innovative cheese pairings at Cassellula and enormous lunch at the Spotted Pig; the High Line and around Hells Kitchen. Enjoy!

High-flying Wines: Scandinavian Airlines from Stockholm to New York

A few years back M and I made a decision: we would no longer do the cramped cattle thing on long haul flights. If we were to fly for over 6 hours, we would do it comfortably or not at all. Not to say it would have to be Business Class, but at least economy extra with a proper leg space. Up to this date, we have not yet paid for one pair of business class tickets, but always flown in comfort. We have used points and vouchers, traveled on dates inconvenient for others, whatever has been at that time the best way to secure leg space. So today, an eight hour flight does not really sound like such a bore. It is actually an extended part of the vacation as it is enjoyable.

Wineweek 78: A Touch of Summer

The weather is amazing. Plus 25 celsius and no clouds in the sky. This is how Sweden is in July. Of course we know it will not last. This kind of warmth in May is just a tease. The temperatures will for sure drop back to +10 and there will be rain. Lots of rain. Nevertheless we have enjoyed the great weather by walking around, taking some photos and drinking cava. Lots of cava. We still have quite a stock left over from our previous visits to Cavatast, so wed better make an effort to empty it.
